TMC says 'most productive' Parl session conducted in 'un-Parliamentary' way

New Delhi: Even though the highest 36 Bills passed during the recent Budget session, the third largest party in the Parliament, Trinamool Congress (TMC) termed that it's been conducted in 'un-Parliamentary way'.

Sources said that though landmark bills like repealing of Article 370, geographical reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir, the Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill, widely known as Triple Talaq bill, new Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill and others have been given a green signal in Parliament, the opposition parties are upset with both the quality of the session and the bills.

A TMC source claimed that the incumbent government deliberately evaded discussion on the Women Reservation Bill and Data Protection Bill, a long demand by the opposition corridor.

Further, it condoned the pusillanimity of the government to discuss the right of media on the floor of the House. The notice was signed by 15 political parties and submitted to the Chairman Rajya Sabha on July 4. Even the main points of Collegiums Reform and State funding of election were not discussed

as per the opposition parties' demand.

TMC claimed that only 17 per cent Bills have been scrutinized in the last Parliament session, whereas 26 per cent was done in 16th Lok Sabha, 71 per cent in 15th Lok Sabha and 60 per cent in 14th Lok Sabha, which the party raised earlier also.

Making a scathing attack on the BJP-led NDA government, Trinamool also claimed that in spite of having the majority on the Lower House, it has failed to name the deputy speaker yet. Whereas, during the 11th Lok Sabha, Suraj Bhan's name as the deputy LS speaker was declared in the 19th sitting, P M Sayeed for both the 12th and 13th Lok Sabha respectively was declared in 59th sitting and 6th sitting, Charanjit Singh Atwal for the 14th Lok Sabha on its 6th sitting, Kariya Munda for 15th Lok Sabha on 6th sitting and M. Thambi Durai's name was declared for the 16th Lok Sabha on its 34th sitting.

Mamata Banerjee's party has further gone on admitting that the session has been "most productive Parliament session" as per the data, where respective 14th, 15th and 16th Lok Sabha passed "zero" Bills.
