Suspected LeT man arrested at Delhi airport

New Delhi: The Special Cell of Delhi Police along with Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a suspected LeT terrorist from Delhi airport, allegedly involved in the Red Fort attack in 2000 on Wednesday. The questioning of the person is still going on to check whether he had any connection with the terror attack, police said.
DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha said they have arrested a person in this regard and questioning is going on. When asked whether he had any plan to attack the city, the senior official stated it only will be clear after the questioning is completed. The person has been identified as Bilal Ahmed Kawa.
Police sources claimed he has been questioned regarding the Red Fort attack which happened in the year 2000. It was carried out by Pakistani-based terrorist group Lashkar-e-Toiba. During the investigation, it was found that the money for carrying out the ghastly attack was sent through Hawala. Police now are checking the bank records of the suspect and also his movement in recent past.
The security in the National Capital has been heightened in view of the upcoming Republic Day. There were intelligence inputs that terror groups may try to carry out attacks. Security personnel already identified vulnerable spots like crowded markets, railway stations, bus stands and other high-value establishments and efforts were made to secure them. Patrolling in public places was intensified and checking and frisking tightened.
