Sterling Biotech case: Ahmed Patel's son Faisal summoned

New Delhi: The ED has summoned senior Congress leader Ahmed Patel's son, Faisal Patel in connection with its money-laundering probe into the Sterling Biotech bank loan fraud, which the agency has claimed could be the largest money-laundering case till date, pegged at over Rs 14,500 crore.

The probe agency has asked Faisal Patel to appear before its officials here on Thursday to record his statement in connection with the case. This is the third time Faisal will be questioned by the ED in relation to the Sterling Biotech case.

The ED had earlier questioned Ahmed Patel's son-in-law, Irfan Siddiqui about his purported links to the Vadodara-based company run by the Sandesara brothers and also recorded his statement.

The financial probe agency had earlier discovered while questioning an employee of the company, that there was a connection between Chetan Sandesara, Ahmed Patel, Faisal, and Siddiqui.

Siddiqui, a lawyer by profession, is married to Patel's daughter and according to the employee, Chetan Sandesara and Siddiqui often used to visit each other at their homes.

In fact, according to this witness, Faisal often took his friends to Chetan Sandesara's Pushpanjali Farms residence to party, for which Chetan bore the expenses.

The witness had also purportedly disclosed that Ahmed Patel's residence was also used as a place for arranging several meetings.
