Speaker urges PM Modi for makeover of Parl building

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Monday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a modern Parliament building in tune with 'New India' and India completing 75 years of Independence in 2022.

As the Lok Sabha met for the day, the Speaker said, "Indian Parliament has completed 75 years. All important decisions are taken at this temple of democracy, which has completed 92 glorious years of existence." The Speaker further said that with the passage of time, responsibilities have also increased. He also assured, on behalf of members of the parliament, that the sanctity and dignity of Parliament will be kept intact.

"It is our expectation that the Parliament building of world's biggest republic and largest democracy is made grand and attractive. For this, I urge the Prime Minister for a parliament building with modern facilities as the country complete 75 years of Independence in 2022," the Speaker said.
