Rs 1,919 crore stuck in Yes Bank, admits Himachal CM Thakur

Shimla: Day after Opposition Congress racked–up issue of trouble-torn Yes Bank, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Jai Ram Thakur admitted the deposits of Rs 1,919 crore — of which Rs 1,244 crore belongs to government entities and Rs 700 crore is of public — was stuck in the bank.

However, he asked the Congress to refrain from making it a political issue and advised to stay calm.

"Please do not play politics on sensitive issues like coronavirus or the Yes Bank crisis," he advised the Congress.

Making a suo moto statement in the state Vidhan Sabha, currently discussing state's Budget for the year 2020-21, Chief Minister stated "institutions including HP Cooperative Bank, Kangra Central Cooperative Bank, HP Infrastructure Development Board, HP Power Transmission Corporation and the Dharamshala Smart City project had deposited money in the bank, besides individuals in total 32,000 bank accounts".

He also tried to pass the buck on the previous Congress government which also had deposited money in the bank before the BJP came to power in December 2017 but assured that money will soon be returned.

"The centre has appointed SBI's former Chief Finance Officer as the bank's administrator and efforts were underway to ensure that the money was returned" he assured.

The SBI will ensure its share of 26 per cent in Yes Bank, which may increase up to 49 per cent, he said. He later added that the SBI would formulate a plan to revive the crisis hit Bank within a week.

Chief Minister also highlighted as how Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra had sold her late father, Rajiv Gandhi's, painting to Yes Bank founder Rana Kapoor for Rs 2 crore.

Consequences in Congress benches worsened as Leader of Opposition Mukesh Agnihotri shot back asking Chief Minister to tell whom the Prime Minister's expensive suit was sold.
