Rlys to complete installation of 600 'Fog Pass Devices' by November end

New Delhi: The Indian Railway is expected to complete installation of 600 'Fog Pass Devices' by the end of November. To avoid the disruption in rail service due to heavy fog in the month of December and January, the device has been developed based on the RDSO specification.

Sources said that the ministry would receive 5,400 more safety devices in another three months. It has a GPS system and displays the name and distance of approaching signals and other critical landmarks in advance during poor visibility condition. The device is placed in the driver's cabin.

Earlier, the Northern Railway has installed about 350 devices in trains - 250 mail and express trains, mostly north-bound are being fitted with the device and about 100 locomotives of goods trains are having the facility. Jammu Rajdhani, Shalimar Express, Chandigarh and Amritsar are among them.

According to sources, 877 fog safety devices have been procured and provided to the East Central Railway (ECR), 2648 to the Northern Railway (NR), 537 devices to the North Central Railway (NCR), 975 to the North Eastern Railway (NER), 1101 devices to the Northeast Frontier Railway zone (NFR) and 802 to the North Western Railway zone (NWR) so far.

In a recent exhibition at RDSO stadium in Lucknow, two such devices were

displayed- which to be

used by railways this winter. One is a vehicular control unit (VCU) system developed

by a US-based company,

based on electromagnetic compatible signal monitoring technology.

Another is the Fiber Optic Acoustic Track Monitoring System, developed by Siemens in coordination with RDSO. The fiber will monitor track and send track condition report every second.
