Rlys completes dedicated freight corridor trial
New Delhi: To boost up the freight service between the northern and eastern part of the country, Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) conducted a trial of a freight train on Friday.
The 194-km long section between New Khurja (Bulandshahr) and New Bhadan (Firozabad), out of the 1856 km long Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC), connects Punjab to West Bengal, the Indian Railways said.
"The stretch has 6 stations and a total of 249 bridges consisting of 17 major, 137 minor, 92 Rail Under Bridges (RUB) and 3 Rail Fly Overs (RFOs). The Freight trains on DFCCIL will be capable for attaining speeds of 100 kmph as against the current maximum speed of 75 km/h on Indian Railway," an official statement mentioned.
While inaugurating the service on Thursday the chairman of the Indian Railway Board Ashwini Lohani asserted that the corridor will bring revolution in freight transportation. Even it has enhanced the business prospect for railways.
Eastern Dedicated Freight Corridor (EDFC) has an electrified double-track segment of 1409 km between Dankuni (West Bengal) and Khurja in Uttar Pradesh, and an electrified single-track segment of 447 km between Ludhiana (Dhandarikalan) to Khurja to Dadri in the state of Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.
DFCCIL had recently run first Double Stack Container Freight train on the 190 km stretch between Ateli to Phulera (located on Rewari to Ajmer portion) of Western Dedicated Freight Corridor on August 15 of this year.
