Recovery rate reduces to 8% as +ve cases rise
New Delhi: As the number of Covid-19 positive cases is set to rise in the coming weeks, the government is focusing on breaking the transmission chain by enforcing complete lockdown in almost all the states as the recovery percentage of coronavirus affected people have reduced to 7.7 per cent.
As per the latest report (till 8.15 pm) of Union Health Ministry, out of total 519 confirmed cases of Covid-19, 40 have been cured and discharged from the hospital.
Maximum number of recoveries has been reported from Haryana wherein out of total 28 positive cases of coronavirus, 11 have been cured, while in Uttar Pradesh, out of 33 confirmed cases, 11 have recovered. In percentage-wise, the recovery rate of Haryana is 39 per cent while that of Uttar Pradesh is 33 per cent.
The recovery rate of Delhi, which has not reported any Covid-19 positive case on Tuesday, stands at 20 per cent as out of total 30 confirmed case, six patients have been cured and discharged from hospitals. Delhi has also reported two deaths due to Covid-19.
In case of Kerala, which was the first state to report Covid-19 positive case, only four patients have been cured out of total 95 confirmed Covid-19 cases till date. In percentage, the southern state has just 4.2 per cent recovery rate.
With 9 per cent recovery rate, Rajasthan has witnessed three recoveries out of 32 Covid-19 positive cases. In Karnataka, which has reported one death due to Covid-19, the recovery rate is 8 per cent as out of 37 confirmed cases, three have recovered so far and one has died.
Tamil Nadu has witnessed a 6.6 per cent recovery rate as out of 15 positive cases, only has been cured, while in Telangana, the recovery rate is just 2.8 per cent as out of 35 confirmed cases, only one has been cured till date.
In the states like Maharashtra, which has reported two deaths out of 89 positive cases, Punjab, which has witnessed one death out of 29 positive cases, no patient recovered yet.
In Gujarat, which is the home state of PM Narendra Modi, there are 33 positive cases and no recovery has been reported from the state. However, the state has witnessed one Covid-219 death. Similarly, Bihar has reported three positive cases out which one has died.
On the guidelines of WHO, the Covid-19 patients are being treated with antiviral compound called remdesivir -- the malaria medications chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine – on an experimental basis.
The government has recommended the use of anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine for treatment of high-risk patients of coronavirus. However, according to ICMR DG Balram Bhargava, this drug has been recommended only for the healthcare worker who is treating a Covid-19 patient and for a person staying and caring a household patient.
The drug is being used on an experimental basis and its nit recommended for the use of general public if they develop symptoms like cough, fever and respiratory problems without doctor's approval, the ICMR DG said.
