Rahul to interact with Rajan today

New Delhi: In a significant development amid the economic repercussions of nationwide lockdown necessitated putting a check on the spread of coronavirus, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi to interact with former Reserve Bank of India governor Raghuram Rajan on Thursday.

According to Congress leaders, during the interaction both will discuss the long term strategies to deal with the COVID crisis and battling the economic ruin that has followed.

The role of Rajan has been very instrumental in carving out NYAY scheme of the Congress, which was proposed to be a probable solution to address poverty in the country.

The interaction is also important at a time when Congress is hitting out at the Centre over "wilful defaulters, bad loans and write-offs".

However, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, while rebutting the charges of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, invoked former RBI governor Rajan by quoting his statement in which he had said that a large number of bad loans originated in the period 2006-2008 and too many loans were made to well-connected promoters who have a history of defaulting on their loans.
