Rahul takes a dig at the finance ministry in cryptic tweet
NEW DELHI: Shortly after Union minister Arun Jaitley announced the resignation of chief economic advisor (CEA) Arvind Subramanian, Congress chief Rahul Gandhi in a cryptic tweet targeted the central government's handling of the finance ministry, CEA's resignation and RSS's "interference" in the economic matters of the country.
"Ex? FM is locked in his room, breaking news on Facebook. BJP Treasurer has the keys to the Indian Economy. The brightest flee the sinking ship, as the "invisible hand" of the RSS steers it onto the rocks. Meanwhile, Captain DeMo is fast asleep. It's crazy out there!" the Congress president tweeted.
The question mark at the beginning of the tweet is presumed to be symbolic of the 'ambiguity' around the person in charge of the finance ministry.
A day ago, Congress leader Manish Tewari had cited information on PMO and finance ministry websites to question the confusion surrounding the person handling the finance ministry.
"Who is finance minister of India? PMO's website says one thing, finance ministry website tells another story. The gentleman designated without portfolio on PMO website is holding meetings via video conference. PM needs to tell country who is his finance minister," Tewari had said.
In May, Arun Jaitley had taken a leave from finance ministry for a kidney-transplantx treatment. In his absence, Piyush Goyal, who according to the Congress is also the national treasurer of BJP, was handed over the reins of the ministry of finance.
"The brightest flee the sinking ship," in the tweet is supposedly a reference to the resignation of Subramanian.
Earlier on Wednesday, Union Minister Arun Jaitley via a blog on Facebook, titled "Thank You Arvind", announced that Chief economic advisor (CEA) Arvind Subramanian has decided to quit from his post "on account of pressing family commitments
"...the "invisible hand" of the RSS steers it onto the rocks...," is aimed at the right-wing organization's alleged meddling in the financial affairs of the government. The Congress president suggested that RSS's, with its "meddling", is leading the country's economy "towards a disaster".
"Captain DeMo," appears to be a veiled dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi who has often been at the receiving end of Congress's attack for introduction of demonetization policy in 2016.
