Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday hit out at Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar over government formation in the state, saying that the BJP leader should thank his party colleague Nitin Gadkari for "MLA shopping" and also state Governor Mridula Sinha.
Digvijaya Singh, who is a Congress General Secretary, took to Twitter to attack Parrikar over his remarks made on Friday. Parrikar had thanked Singh for failing to cobble up a majority in the state despite the Congress winning the largest number of assembly seats.
Singh said the people of Goa had been robbed of their mandate.
"Manohar Parrikar thanks me for letting him form Govt in Goa."
"If he has to thank anyone it is Nitin Gadkari who did aggressive MLA shopping on 12th March early morning from a hotel in Goa."
"And Governor Goa, who violated Constitution, Sarkaria Commission guideline & Supreme Court decisions and robbed the mandate of people of Goa," Digvijaya Singh said.
Parrikar, who is still a Rajya Sabha member, had come to the House on Friday and took potshots at Digvijaya Singh, who is party in-charge of Goa.
"My special thanks go out to honourable member Digvijaya Singh, who happened to be in Goa but did nothing so that I could form the government," Parrikar had said.
Asked by reporters later why he gave special thanks to Digvijaya Singh, Parrikar replied: "I thanked him for his incompetence."
The Congress had won 17 seats in the February 4 state assembly elections and emerged as the single-largest party, while the BJP won only 13 seats in the 40-member assembly. It formed the government in the state in alliance with smaller parties.
