Om Birla expresses anguish over member's conduct
New Delhi: Expressing his displeasure over the untoward incident that took place during the discussion on Motion of Thanks on the President's Address on Thursday, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Friday said that remarks on the Chair -- both within and outside the House – is a violation of the dignity and decorum of the House.
Referring to the dignity of the House, Birla said that the House has a high standard of dignity, which is respected by and upheld by all the Members. The Speaker reminded that any member occupying the Chair holds all the constitutional rights and powers of the Speaker.
"It is my appeal not to make any comments against the Chair, neither inside nor outside the House," Birla said, adding that it was inappropriate for a member to make comments against the Chair on social media.
The Speaker also said that he had taken a note of the events that had unfolded in the House on Thursday. It was always his endeavour to ensure every member received adequate time to speak in the House, he said, adding that there is always an effort to ensure that the House is run impartially by the rules and procedures.
