Of 16 new AIIMS of Modi regime, 9 to be ready in 2022

New Delhi: As per the claims of Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, out of the 16 new AIIMS that were announced during the Modi regime, nine AIIMS are set to be fully operational in 2022, while two AIIMS would become functional a year later in 2023.

According to the information provided by Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya in a written reply to Lok Sabha on Friday, among the five remaining AIIMS, the Centre has set January 2025 as the deadline for completion of AIIMS-Awantipora in Kashmir and AIIMS-Madurai in Tamil Nadu is supposed to be ready for patient care in October 2026.

Surprisingly, the Centre has been yet able to get the land from the Haryana government for the proposed AIIMS at Manethi in the BJP-ruled state. Also, the Bihar government, which is also ruled by the BJP-led alliance, has not yet provided encumbrance-free land for proposed AIIMS in Darbhanga.

Though Mandaviya, in his written reply, has not mentioned any particular target year for the completion of AIIMS-Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh, it has been stated that the civil work of the institution has competed. As per the reply given by the minister, after the approval of the revised cost estimate of AIIMS-Rae Bareli on June 22, 2017, the OPD and residential block, medical college/hospital got been completed in more than four years of the time period.

The nine AIIMS of the PM Modi regime, which are slated to be completed in the year 2022, include Mangalagiri (Andhra Pradesh), Guwahati (Assam), Rajkot (Gujarat), Bilaspur (Madhya Pradesh), Deoghar (Jharkhand), Nagpur (Maharashtra), Bathinda (Punjab), Gorakhpur (Uttar Pradesh) and Kalyani in West Bengal.

The premier institute Vijaypur in Jammu is scheduled to be completed by January 2023 and AIIMS-Bibinagar in Telangana is to be completed by November 2023.

The Health Ministry also said that there are 1,53,167 ICU beds, 67,171 ventilators, and 27,810 ambulances in the country.
