NRC: ABYSO to hold sit-in demonstration in city

New Delhi: The All Bengali Youth and Students Organisation (ABYSO) in New Delhi will stage a sit-in demonstration from 10 am today morning till 4 pm in the afternoon, in solidarity with the Sara Assam Bangali Oikya Mancha, which will also be participating in the protest event against the implementation of the NRC, the final list of which has excluded more than 19 lakh people.

While the government has said that all who are excluded will be provided a fair chance before a foreigner's Tribunal to prove their case, the ABYSO has taken a strong stance against the government saying that the entire process is either due to lack of clarity, clerical error, or an intentional move to support Assam-based chauvinist organisations. The ABYSO said in a statement that the Bengali speaking community in Assam has suffered a lot and that human rights of a lot in the community had been violated by putting people in detention camps. The organisation also said that people in Assam continue to be harassed regularly because of the perceived notion of them being foreigners because of NRC exclusion.

Several other Assamese and Bengali student organisations from state across the country will also be participating in the sit-in demonstration.
