No displacement due to Polavaram project in Ch'garh and Odisha: Govt

New Delhi: Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram has on Thursday said that there will not be any displacement in Chhattisgarh and Odisha due to Polavaram project if state governments create protective embankments.
In reply to a question raised by MP D Raja in Rajya Sabha, the minister said that due to this project, 17,444 tribal families of Andhra Pradesh are being displaced.
In response to a question by the member as how many tribal families are being displaced in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha states due to the Polavaram project, Oram said, "In 2005-06, 44 villages surveyed were done. Later, 12 more villages were surveyed. It estimates the displacement of 17,444 families of AP." "At the same time, if the states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha create protective embankments then there will be no need to displace even a single family in these states," the minister said. The minister said Telangana has not yet given the data of the families displaced in the state to the Centre.
