Brushing aside the vanquishing claims of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the MLC elections of 'buying and selling' elections, the BSP chief Mayawati on Sunday in a sharp comment stated that victories in such elections are as meaningless as calling the BSP a non-participant.
On Saturday, the Prime Minister in his Badaun rally had termed the victory of three MLC candidates as an augur of BJP's landslide victory in the ensuing assembly
elections in Uttar Pradesh.
"Modi is trying to misguide the people of Uttar Pradesh by linking his party's win on three seats of Member of Legislative Council (MLC) of the state. The voters are
well aware of such elections being stage managed and also being based on 'buying and selling'," said Mayawati.
The BSP supremo who is fighting the toughest political battle after complete washout in Lok Sabha elections 2014 also said that almost three years have gone by
since Modi came to power. "The Prime Minister should inform the people about the works done by his government," she added.
Uttar Pradesh state legislature is bicameral where Members of Legislative Assembly (MLAs) are directly elected by the people while MLCs are elected in various
ways. The above three MLCs were elected by graduate voters of the respective areas.
"PM had promised to abandon loan off the farmers but so far nothing has been announced. The voters who were in favour of the BJP government are still waiting for
Rs 15-20 lakhs in their accounts," mocked Mayawati. She further added that the first phase of elections has been highly encouraging for BSP.
"The good news coming from the first phase will continue in the subsequent phases. BSP will form the elections on its own," she said. The ensuing assembly
elections in the state has been planned in seven phases out of which polling was conducted on 73 seats out of 15 districts on February 11.
