Four of cash-supply company held for ATM loot

Four employees of a cash supply company have been arrested for allegedly siphoning off Rs 30 lakh and setting ablaze an ATM in Rohtak to destroy records, police said today.

The incident took place on February 8 at the ATM located in Gandhi Camp area of Rohtak, they said.

The accused had hatched a conspiracy to escape the needle of suspicion so that the incident would look like an ordinary robbery, they said.

Police said that the four persons were arrested last night and produced before a court in Rohtak today which remanded them to four days police custody.

Police received a call that a fire broke out in Gandhi Camp area and on reaching there they found a kiosk with an ATM and an adjoining shop engulfed in flames.

The fire department was alerted to douse the fire, police said.

The security guard at the ATM told police that three robbers had forcefully entered in the wee hours and tied him up with a rope and snatched his mobile phone.

As investigations progressed, police zeroed-in on four accused - Arun Yadav, Balraj, Sukhwinder and Jaibir, all hailing from Charkhi Dadri and Rohtak areas.

Arun and Balraj used to upload the cash in the ATM while Sukhwinder and Jaibir worked as gunmen in the company.

Police said that the men were given a total of Rs 2.5 crore cash to deposit in the ATMs, but they decided to hatch a conspiracy to siphon off an amount of Rs 30 lakh.

They then decided to upload only Rs 4 lakh cash in the Gandhi Camp ATM while showing in the records that they had deposited Rs 34 lakh.

On the fateful night, Balraj, Sukhwinder and Jaibir arrived on a motorcycle and set the ATM on fire and tied up the guard.

During interrogation, the accused who confessed their crime.

Police today said that an amount of Rs 27.5 lakh had been recovered from the accused, who were working for the company for the last 2-3 years.
