MCI introduces new project to bring transparency among docs

In an aim to make the 'One Country, One Registration' transparent and accessible for all doctors of India, the Medical Council of India (MCI) has announced a system- 'Digital Mission Mode Project'.

"This project will help us fetch data regarding the number of doctors practising in the country. Also, we can track them when they change states," said a Medical Council official.

Under this pilot project, all doctors will be issued with an electronic Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) registration card. Via this unique identification number, the doctors can practice anywhere after getting enrolled by MCI.

MCI president, Jayshree Mehta, said, "This project helps in monitoring the faculty's attendance through both the biometric system and unique identification number."

Also, this system is accessible online and gets updated. "Every college will have a server which will help us tab everything including the presence of faculty in the academic compound, etc," she added.

This pilot project will make come into action from April 20, 2017. Rs 45 crores have been allocated for the project. The medical education regulator stated that salary and work status will be submitted to MCI.
