Malda: BSF-BGB meeting at Sona Masjid in B’desh, important decisions taken

Malda: A sector commander-level meeting between the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was held on January 22 at the Sona Masjid Border Outpost (BOP) in Bangladesh.
The meeting aimed to address important border issues between the two countries along with some key decisions evolving.
The meeting focused on border security and cooperation between the forces. Key decisions included restricting entry within 150 yards of the border to Indian and Bangladeshi farmers only.
Both sides agreed to resolve any border-related issues through dialogue and cooperation.
Additionally, the meeting emphasised preventing the spread of misinformation and tackling illegal activities, such as border crossings and drug trafficking by both the forces.
The BSF was represented by DIG Arun Kumar Gautam, the Sector Commander of Malda while the BGB delegation was led by Colonel Mohammad Imran Ibn-e-A Rouf, the Sector Commander of Rajshahi. Other officials from both sides, including Suraj Singh, the Commander of the 119 BSF Battalion and Lieutenant Colonel Golam Kibria, Commander of the 59 BGB Battalion, were also present.
The meeting was held in a cordial atmosphere, underscoring the importance of continued collaboration between the two forces to maintain peace and security along the border.
The total length of the India-Bangladesh border is approximately 4,096 kilometres (2,545 miles), making it the fifth-longest land border in the world.
Out of this the Indian state of West Bengal shares a 2217 km stretch border with Bangladesh. The border is guarded by the BSF on the Indian side.
