Kolkata: CID busts inter-state child trafficking racket, nabs two

Kolkata: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has busted a child trafficking racket and rescued a two day old girl from the clutches of the traffickers with the help of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and an NGO early on Sunday morning.

Two traffickers including a woman were arrested as well from the spot.

According to CID officials, acting on a tip off about an interstate child trafficking racket the Officer in Charge (OC) of the Anti Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) along with the Deputy Superintendent of Police (Dy. SP), Special of the CID made a blueprint for conducting a surprise raid outside of the Shalimar railway station.

Accordingly the CWC and an NGO were conducted and asked for assistance. Sources informed that as per the plan two officials of the CID disguised as a married couple and prospective buyers of the child got in touch with the traffickers and fixed up the spot for meeting.

Accordingly, on Sunday early morning the CID team assisted by the Child Welfare Committee and the NGO reached the spot and took position before the traffickers arrived.

After a while, the CID officials disguised as a couple arrived. After a few moments two accused identified as Manik Haldar and Mukul Sarkar reached the spot with a two-day old girl.

While talking with CID officials in disguise, other police personnel and the CWC personnel along

with the representative from the NGO surrounded the traffickers.

Later the new-born was rescued and has been admitted at the Howrah Hospital.

The accused duo were taken to the AJC Bose Botanical Garden police

station where a case was registered. Following that Halder and Sarkar were arrested.
