India's first Design University opens campus at Sonipat in Haryana

New Delhi: India's first design university – World University of Design – was opened at Haryana's Sonipat on Wednesday. Promoted by Om Parkash Bansal Educational & Social Welfare Trust of Mandi Gobindgarh, Punjab, the university is currently located on the NH1 in Rajiv Gandhi Education City (NCR), Sonipat – the largest planned integrated city for education in India.
With the state-of-art infrastructure and world class facilities, the university has tied up with many international universities like University of West Scotland, Vancouver Film School and Italian University of Design (IAAD), an official of the university said.
Some of the prominent names in the industry are on the Advisory board of the University –AG Krishna Menon, Payal Jain, Peter D'ascoli, Amardeep Behl and Neha Kirpal.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sanjay Gupta, Director General of WUD said, "Contemporary Design education not only creates value and contributes to competitiveness, prosperity, and well-being of a nation but also enables collaboration, hyper-specialization and moving beyond the limits of future thinking and existing technology."
WUD will be a strategically critical platform for providing youth with the tools they need to drive India's future development. Education is changing and as we increasingly face the growing challenges of a complex socio business environment, high quality trans-disciplinary education with a design foundation and thinking, becomes more critical than ever, he added.
WUD offers creative course on design, fashion, communication, visual arts, design & retail management, and architecture.
