India on move: Road projects speeding across country

New Delhi: It seems the mission of the government to provide better road connectivity is on the verge of completion as the country is on the move with the speeding road projects undertaken under the leadership of Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari.

The government has recently launched several completed projects in the states of Jammu and Kashmir, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Rajasthan and Delhi.

The minister had recently dedicated to the nation Keerian Gandial bridge on Ravi river in Jammu & Kashmir. The bridge, which is 1,210 m long, has been completed at the cost of Rs 158.84 crore.

With the construction of the Keerian Gandial bridge, the travel time has been reduced a much as the bridge has reduced the travel distance from 45 kms to 8.6 kms resulting in saving of time and money. The bridge would prove to be a great boon for over 2.20 lakh commuters residing in the areas of Kathua, Jammu and Pathankot (Punjab) and give a boost to the economic development of J&K and Punjab.

The government has also laid the foundation stone for 21 national highway projects and 10 RoBs under SetuBharatam. Besides, seven national highway projects were also dedicated to the nation in Andhra Pradesh, which has enhanced connectivity in the state. The Centre has helped in building 1,384 km long road networks at the cost of Rs 16,878

crore. The development of NHs has increased the length of NHs in Andhra Pradesh by 3,053 km.

Similarly, in the state of Goa, the Centre has dedicated Mandovi bridge to the nation. The four-lane cable stay bridge is being built at the cost of Rs 850 crore and its 5.1 km long. In Maharashtra, Gadkari started Karanja fishery project.

The project would benefit about 25,000 people both directly and indirectly and boost the economic development in Uran region of the state. The cost of the project is Rs 150 crore.

With the objective to make Delhi pollution free and traffic free city, the minister has laid the foundation for a six-lane access-controlled corridor connecting Akshardham to EPE junction on Baghpat road.
