ILBS creates awareness about liver ailments through artwork
New Delhi: It seems cancer has deeply invaded the lives of those stricken by the deadly disease in the country as liver cancer has become more prominent among Indians due to poor lifestyle.
Even though liver cancer has become a major contributor to the deaths occurring due to the disease, people pay the least attention in taking care of the important organ that performs over 200 tasks to keep our body healthy.
With the view to draw the attention of masses towards the importance of the vital organ, the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) has made an attempt to create awareness about the prime causes of liver disease through cartoons.
The awareness project, which is a part of the Empathy Campaign of the institute, is prepared under the direction of ILBS director SK Sarin, who has an appetite for creating awareness of live diseases through artworks. As Empathy campaign is focused on generating community dialogue for empowering people against Hepatitis B & C, the institute invited people across the globe to participate in the cartoon contest over the importance of liver with the tagline 'no time for liver.' According to Sarin, artworks captures the aesthetic aspect of science describing a scientific truth in a simplistic way and people can see it and understand it in a way that is much more accessible and relatable to them.
Commenting on the initiative, project in-charge Deepti Dubey said, "The contest, which was started on July 10 to August 15, received 394 entries from India and 365 entries from 40 countries on the subject and participants range from 13 years to 77 years."
The campaign, which is supported by Airport's Authority of India, is showcasing all the selected artworks at an exhibition cum awareness generation platform on Tuesday.
According to the government estimates, India has 50 million people infected with viral Hepatitis B and C. However, a majority of them do not know that they are infected as the symptoms are not visible in the early stages.
