HSGMC polls: Sikh Panthik Dal and allies win 18 seats

Chandigarh: The SAD, contesting as the Haryana Sikh Panthik Dal, and its alliance partners have won 18 seats in the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (HSGMC) elections, which were conducted almost after 11 years registering a voter turnout of 69 per cent.

The SAD was not allowed to contest the elections as a political party. So, its candidates had to form a religious group named Haryana Sikh Panthik Dal. It was allotted a new election symbol of "Dhol". It won 6 seats on this symbol and its supporters won 12 other seats as independents on different symbols.

A total of 4156 voters cast their votes at 7 polling stations in Ward No. 1 Kalka. Gurmeet Singh secured 1564 votes defeating Ujaagar Singh by 152 votes who got 1412 votes. Among other candidates Sujinder Singh got 1010 votes, Harpreet Singh got 145 votes and NOTA got 25 votes.

In Ward No. 2 Panchkula, 2845 voters cast their votes at 6 polling booths. Sarwan Singh got 829 votes and defeated Gursewak Singh by a margin of 42 votes, who got 787 votes. Among other candidates, Pyara Singh got 762 votes, Jagmohan Singh got 326 votes, Gurcharan Singh got 122 votes, Jagjit Singh got 10 votes and 9 voters opted NOTA.
