Gurugram police now to organise self-defence classes for girl students in government schools

Gurugram: Gururgam police will organise self-defence classes for the girl students in government schools under programme Sabal (courageous).

The programme will be held in collaboration with a multinational company which will support the law enforcement officials under the corporate social responsibility.

The Gurugram police has already begun the process of training certain number of students under this programme.

"We hope that these kind of intiatives are required to make the citizens protect themselves but also make them disciplned and self reliant. We will now involve more schools under this programme and encourgae more girl students to participate," said a senior police official from Gurugram police.

Police has once again started the awareness session on POCSO ( Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences) for school students.

These sessions are carried out by Women Police officers of Gurugram police along with practising lawyers to help children of class 8th and 9 to understand about sexual harassment against children, how to report and also about helpline and prevention.

These sessions will also carry out workplaces to sensitize women about Sexual Harassment at workplaces and their rights relating to the same.

Gurugram along with its counterpart Faridabad is leading in terms of sexual crimes against minors.

In 2018 there were 106 cases of sexual crimes against minors while in 2017 there were 115. Not only sexual crimes but the lae enforcement officials also have to dal with increased cases of human trafficking.

Acknowleding that safety of women in the city is a major law and order challenge the senior officials of Gurugram is increasing its manpower, most of them will be mainly stationed in night. Strict instructions is also being issued to pubs and bars in Gurugram to ensure that thee must be no illegal activities that must take under it. The new police commissioner of Gurugram police Muhammad Akil has already stated that he will want his force to be the most visble force that will be present on the city roads than being in the police stations.

The Durga Shakti app that was lauched by the state police has witnessed a lot of popularity among the women in city.
