Govt to felicitate seven Olympians of North-Eastern states

The government on Tuesday will felicitate the Olympians of North-Eastern states who participated in Rio Olympics, 2016 at the North Block. Each of them will be awarded an amount of Rs 2 lakh and a memento. The Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju will be felicitating the seven champions at a function organised by Ministry of Home Affairs.
Dipa Karmakar (Gymnastics), P Sushila Chanu (Hockey-Women), H Lal Ruatfeli (Hockey- Women), L Bombayla Devi (Archery), K Chinglensan Singh (Hockey- Men), K Kothajit Singh (Hockey-Men) and Saikhom Mirabai Chanu (Weightlifting) are the seven gems of the country to be felicitated in the event.
On January, the Olympians, PV Sindhu, Sakshi Malik, Dipa Karmakar, Paralympian Deepa Malik were honored with the Padma Award. Also, on October 2016, four Indian Rio Paralympics medal winners — Devendra Jhajharia, Mariyappan Thangavelu, Deepa Malik and Varun Singh Bhati were felicitated.
