Govt to develop more security infrastructure in the country

New Delhi: After the monumental move over controlling the cross-border fracas in 2016, the centre has now decided to emphasize more on security infrastructure, security management, foreign cooperation and some online portals to build bridge of trust and confidence with citizens in terms of security in this year.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, which released its yearly review report of 2017 on Thursday, mentioned about inauguration of two new institutions for National Disaster Management earlier this year and two new office complexes for NIA and new headquarters for BPR&D in the national capital and for IB in Jodhpur.
In April, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the proposal of the MHA for extension of the implementation phase of the Crime and Criminals Tracking Network and Systems (CCTNS) Project for another year beyond March 31, 2017. Then after in June the ministry launched CRPF Helpline.
Moving the focus on internal security MHA also launched the Digital Police Portal under the CCTNS project in August. The ministry undertook the steps to integrate the various organs of the Criminal Justice System such as the Police, Courts, Prisons, Prosecution, Forensic Laboratories, Finger Prints and Juvenile Homes with the CCTNS database. The Digital Police Portal enabled citizens to register FIRs online and the portal will initially offer seven Public Delivery Services in 34 states and UTs.
To counter terrorism and to strengthen mutual support the Indian government also signed some common agreements with other countries. In May to formalise the agreements on anti- terrorism mechanism India and UK both agreed on a common accord.
In June the Union Cabinet approved the Memorandum of Cooperation on Home Land Security between India and USA to help in coordination and interactions among the six Sub-Groups that are proposed to be formed under Homeland Security Dialogue between the two countries. In this month India also signed a MoU with Thailand in regulation of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances and combating drug trafficking.
To ensure the cross-border security the Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh also chaired meeting with chief ministers of Indo-Bangladesh Border states in Kolkata on October to highlight the concept of Border Protection Grid (BPG) for multipronged and foolproof mechanism to secure our border. Earlier, in May he also chaired a similar meeting with the CMs of states, bordering with China in Gangtok.
