Govt looking for 'lawful' way out on Ram temple issue
New Delhi: Amid VHP's demand for an ordinance to facilitate construction of a Ram temple, the government is looking for a way out in a lawful manner. It feels that the Parliament can only change the base of judgment by a court.
A source in the government said, "'Right' and 'Religious' are two contradictory parts. But court solves the grey layer between both."
It further said the implementation of any 'judgment on deity' faces obligations from society as religious may not meet science and logic always.
Though Prime Minister Narendra Modi is yet to utter a word on the Ram Temple, his unsated cabinet colleagues like Uma Bharti, Giriraj Singh and PP Choudhary, besides Sushil Modi, Keshav Maurya, the deputy chief minister of Bihar and UP respectively, expressed their anger on the apex court's recent direction on the issue. The Supreme Court last month said that an "appropriate bench" will decide in the first week of January the schedule of hearing of the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case.
The Akhil Bharatiya Sant Samiti, a Hindu religious body, on Sunday also "directed" the government to bring in legislation or an ordinance for the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya.
The protagonist of the Ram Temple movement, RSS also headlined saying that enactment an act on the construction of Ram temple would lead to an atmosphere of "goodwill and harmony" in the country. Outlining the organisation's stand on the issue, Sangh's general secretary Bhaiyyaji Joshi said Hindus were feeling "insulted" by the apex court declaration.
