'Good governance needed for sustainable economic deve'
New Delhi: Good governance and zero corruption are needed for sustainable economic development in the country, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said on Thursday while speaking at the 60th SKOCH Summit at the Constitution Club in the national capital.
The discussion was on "Climate Change and $5 Trillion Transformation," where Javadekar said, "India will become a five trillion-dollar economy under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi. Policy paralysis never allows for sustainable growth. On the other hand, decisive leadership gives real support and momentum to the economy - is being provided by Narendra Modi, which the world can also see."
As an example, he referred to the Goods and Services Tax (GST) initiative saying it was a real example of 'cooperative federalism.' "A big revolutionary move of GST was taken to bring transparency and make tax compliance better. GST Council was made which is a real example of cooperative federalism. Under the leadership of then finance minister Arun Jaitley, the council, which had finance ministers of various states, had no dispute over policy decisions," the minister and the chief speaker of the event mentioned. Javadekar, who is also the environment minister left no chance to attack his predecessor and senior Congress member Jairam Ramesh by backing Veerappa Moily's statement on 'policy paralysis' saying, "A decision that took 640 days to be reached during Ramesh's time as Environment Minister, now it takes 100 days." The minister emphasised on infrastructure and agricultural development for economic growth. "The stronger the infrastructure, the faster will be the economic growth. Every year Rs 20 lakh crore have been kept aside for infrastructure development," he said.
