Girl commits suicide after mother scolds her

Kolkata: A 15-year-old girl committed suicide after being scolded by her mother for withdrawing some money from the latter's bank account. The incident took place at Chanchal in Malda on Wednesday morning.
Police said that the victim Sonali Khatun was a student.
The victim's mother went to bank on Tuesday and it came to her notice that Rs 6,000 was withdrawn from her bank account.
Initially, she couldn't understand that who had withdrawn the money. Later, she came to know from her daughter that she had withdrawn the money from the bank account.
The woman, who is the lone bread winner of the family, was angry with her daughter's move of withdrawing the money and she scolded her. The girl didn't say anything to her mother after getting scolded and chose to remain silent.
On Wednesday morning, her mother found the girl hanging from the ceiling fan of a room in their house. Local people rushed hearing the woman's cries for help and informed the police. Police took her to a hospital where she was declared brought dead.
Police came to know that the girl had taken the extreme step when her mother was busy in household chores. Police learnt from her family members that she was quite silent and didn't speak much after being scolded. But no one had thought she would take such a step.
It may be mentioned that quite a similar incident had taken place in South Kolkata where an 18-year-old girl committed suicide as she was scolded by her mother for her poor performance in studies.
The incident took place on Tuesday. Investigation had revealed that the girl was not good in studies and her parents were concerned about it.
