BHOPAL: FIRs have been registered against Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi, the party’s state unit chief Kamal Nath and former Union minister Arun Yadav, and others in several districts of Madhya Pradesh on charges of misleading posts on their Twitter handle accusing 50% commission taking in state government works.

BJP leaders and workers have filed complaints against the Congress leaders in over 40 districts of the state in this matter accusing the Congress leaders used a fake letter to allege that contractors in MP get paid for their work only after they provide a 50 per cent commission to the government.

The FIRs have also been registered against Congress spokesperson Jairam Ramesh, Shobha Ozha and Gyanendra Awasthi. Awasthi, whose name is written on the letterhead of the alleged contractors’ association. In Indore, Gwalior, Bhopal, and Rewa, the Congress leaders have been booked so far. After registering the FIR against Arun Yadav, he said that the state has turned into a home ground for corruption and a 50% commission government is working in the state.

“We raised our voices against it, and two days ago we and our contractors friend brought the issue to the notice of the High Court judge through a letter”, Yadav told Millennium Post.

Attaching a newspaper clip, Priyanka tweeted on Friday, “A union of contractors has complained to Chief Justice of MP High Court that payment is received only after paying 50 per cent commission in the state.”

“The corrupt BJP government in Karnataka used to collect 40% commission. In Madhya Pradesh, BJP has gone ahead by breaking its record of corruption”, she also tweeted. Nath, Ramesh and Yadav also made similar posts.

Indore police said an FIR had been registered under sections 420 (cheating) and 469 (forgery with intent to harm reputation) against Priyanka, Nath, and Arun over Twitter’s post accusing the MP government of corruption, after a complaint filed by a BJP leader.

The letter claimed contractors in the state are being asked to pay a 50 per cent commission.

“Priyanka tweeted the letter of Awasthi in which he stated correctly about the 50% commission.”

“The truth is being pressed and we will never be scared with the FIRs and keep raising the issue of corruption in the state”, former Minister and Congress MLA, P C Sharma told Millennium Post.

MP Home minister Narottam Mishra had sought proof from Priyanka to support her charge, warning that options were otherwise open before the state government to take action.

Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had on Saturday accused Congress of using the fake letter to corner his government, claiming that neither the address nor the person, whose name is written on the letter, has been found by intelligence.

“It is a well-planned Congress conspiracy to defame MP”, he said.

In the recently held Karnataka Assembly polls, Congress had raised the 40% commission issue and won the elections. After the 50% commission in the MP government and FIR against Priyanka and Nath, the politics have heated up in the state where the Assembly polls are around the corner.
