Fake Aadhaar card racket busted on India-B’desh border, two arrested

Malda: A major fake Aadhaar card racket was unearthed in Vaishnavnagar, an area near the India-Bangladesh border. Police arrested two individuals, Utpal Mondal of Nandalalpur village and Sudipta Mondal of Chama village, for allegedly manufacturing fake Aadhaar cards using the login credentials of an unknown Assam resident.

The arrests were made following a raid at Utpal Mondal’s online service shop in Bhagabanpur Bazaar. Police seized 70 fake Aadhaar cards and several crucial documents from the location. The accused were produced in the Malda court, where police sought seven days of custody for further investigation.

The incident has raised serious concerns about the misuse of fake Aadhaar cards by Bangladeshi nationals to access Indian resources and territories. It has also highlighted the recurring issue of fraudulent activities in border areas.

District BJP leader Amlan Bhaduri criticised the lack of vigilance, blaming poor enforcement for the proliferation of illegal activities like fake Aadhaar card production. He alleged that such frauds have enabled unrestricted movement of unauthorised individuals.

TMC spokesperson Ashish Kundu defended the police’s prompt action, adding that Bengal’s administration has been successful in apprehending culprits, unlike BJP-ruled states. He also questioned the role of BSF in preventing such activities.

The police have launched an investigation to uncover the full extent of the racket and its potential links to other crimes in the region.
