Engineer duo cheated many of crores, nabbed

Noida: Two men, both engineers, have been arrested for duping several persons of crores of rupees, after promising them properties at prime locations in Noida which were never delivered. Police said that the arrested accused stopped responding to the clients once they receive the booking amount against the property.

According to police, the arrested accused have been identified as Amit Singh, a native of Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh and Anubhav Srivastav, hailing from Gonda district in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. Presently, the accused were living in Harola in Noida and running office in Jagdamba Vihar, New Delhi. Police have recovered over Rs 8 lakh cash from the possession of accused persons which they duped from the innocent buyers.

In a complaint received by police at sector 20 police station of Noida, the complainant, on September 29, stated that two accused are duping people after promising plush properties in Noida which are never delivered.

"Acting on the information, a police team was sent at ICICI bank in Sector 18 of Noida to nab the accused. We received a tip-off that both the accused are coming to the bank in sector 18 following which a trap was laid and both the accused were arrested," said Avaneesh Kumar, Circle Officer-1, Noida.

The officer further said that during interrogation, the arrested persons revealed that they used to fetch data from websites and call people asking them to buy property. Later they stop responding to their calls when the token amount was paid to them.

"During sustained interrogation, the accused disclosed that they used to dupe people after promising properties at prime locations at cheaper rates. They admitted that they used to grab data from various sources and trap those people, who were willing to buy properties. They admitted to lure the property aspirants, they had shown some lands and under construction building. After convincing the innocent people, they used to take token money from them," added Kumar.

He added that the accused are habitual offenders and have several cheating and forgery crimes in past too. Cops also seized a laptop, a number of chequebooks, several ATM cards, letter pads and stamp papers from the possession of accused persons.
