With the number of registrations for admission in Kendriya Vidyalayas crossing over 6 lakh-mark, it seems the centrally-funded school is a hit among masses for its quality and affordability.
As the last date of online registration came to an end on March 15, the KVS witnessed registration of over 6.47 lakh students for the admission in Class 1. The largest number of online registration has been recorded by Delhi with 1,23,059 students applying for admission in Class 1, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 70,533 registrations, Madhya Pradesh with 58,073 registrations, Karnataka (32,382) and West Bengal (31,951).
Nagaland has received least registration as only 2 students have applied for seeking admission to Class 1 from the north-eastern state, followed by Kerala with 30 students filling online forms and Sikkim with 52 applications.
Elated over overwhelming response, an HRD Ministry official said, "It's for the first time that KVS started online admission process and the number of registrations show that people want their wards to study in different KVS schools spread across the country."
"At a time, when primary education in private schools has become a big business, KVS is still serving to needed parents by providing quality education at affordable price," the official said. Recently, the government has approved setting up of 50 new KVs across the country to provide quality education to around 50,000 students. There are at present 1,142 functional Kendriya Vidyalayas under the KVS including three abroad at Moscow, Kathmandu and Tehran.
