DD India to be available in B'desh, S Korea: Javadekar

New Delhi: In an effort to boost the Indian government's 'Act-East' policy, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry has recently signed an MoU with neighboring country Bangladesh and South-East country South Korea in the broadcasting platform.

Both the Bangladesh and Indian government have decided to broadcast "BTV World, a channel owned by Bangladesh TV, on the Doordarshan Free Dish which will be available for the viewers of Doordarshan in our country. At the same time, DD India would be made available in Bangladesh for being viewed by the people in that country," I&B minister Prakash Javadekar said.

Besides, "the Government has also approved the proposal of Prasar Bharati for making available the KBS World, an English 24x7 channel of the Government of the Republic of South Korea on the DD Free Dish for the Indian viewers. Simultaneously, the people of Korea would be able to view DD India in their country," the minister further added.

The ministry confirmed that an MoU was signed between Prasar Bharati and Bangladesh TV (BTV) on May 7 of this year and the channel would be of special interest to the viewers of the eastern part of the country.

Javadekar also mentioned that such cooperation would further enhance India's relationship with other neighbouring countries.

"Our maiden government from 2014 - 2019 took many decisions of cooperation with foreign countries. To boost Prime Minister Narendra Modi's emphasis on 'Act-East' policy, we have initiated this cooperation from I&B ministry. Many more to happen later," the minister told the mediapersons at his office here.

The Indian government also took a decision earlier that to co-produce a film on Banga Bandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman with Bangladesh government, which will be directed by the eminent film Director and Producer Shri Shyam Benegal.

Further, the I&B ministry launched a scheme on Wednesday to facilitate the media platform, irrespective of print, TV, radio or digital for promoting International Yoga Day, celebrated on June, 21, Javadekar mentioned.

While speaking to the Millennium Post, I&B minister further said that "reviving" and "nurturing" on different broadcasting policy is his prime focus now. The minister is also holding weekly review meetings with officials to discuss different options, bettering new schemes and policies.
