Congress member raises issue of TRAI chairman's Aadhaar dare on Twitter

New Delhi: A Congress leader in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday described Trai Chairman RS Sharma's 'Aadhaar challenge' in Twitter as bizarre and said it has sparked serious concerns among people about safety and security of their privacy and personal details.

Sharing his Aadhaar number on Twitter, Sharma had dared hackers to get access to his personal information in a bid to show that it is secure.

Raising the issue in the House, K C Venugopal said this is one an important issue and his party had moved an adjournment motion.

"Hackers are claiming to have accessed his (Sharma) private information. This has caused serious concerns and apprehensions among people about safety and security of their personal information and privacy," he said.

Reports have also pointed out that the bank details of thousands of citizens in the country have been compromised through fake banking applications, he said.

This is a great threat to the financial security and privacy of the citizens in the country, he said.

Ethical hackers claimed to have the bank account details of the TRAI Chairman and they posted it on Twitter, the Congress leader said.

Some users also posted screenshots of sending one rupee to his account through Aadhaar-enabled payment service apps, he said.

The ability to send money to a person without his consent could expose someone to blackmail, money laundering and other dangers, he said noting that Sharma has claimed that all the information accessed to by hackers was already in public domain.

"I request the government to take immediate steps to stop such leakages, because this has become an era of data leakage.

"But the government is keeping silent. It should come forward and take strong against such misuse of personal data. That is the need of the hour," he said.
