Ahmedabad: Congress leader Arjun Modhwadia on Saturday complained of EVM tampering at three polling booths in Porbandar, claiming that some machines were found to be connecting to external devices via bluetooth. "The chips fitted in the EVMs appear to be programmable using bluetooth, and this raises the possibility of tampering. The voting system should be immune to such connectivity to external devices," he said.
Deputy Election Commissioner Sandeep Jain said the complaint was incorrect, adding that experts found that the cell phone actually connected to the bluetooth of a polling agent's mobile. The EVM has "no receptors" and cannot be connected to any other device except the control unit and paper trail machine, he said. "It has no bluetooth or USB (pen drive) port. Congress Rajya Sabha MP Ahmed Patel tweeted, "There are reports of EVM malfunctioning in several polling stations. Request the Election Commission to take necessary action immediately."
