CM Sukhu meets Rajnath Singh
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday made a strong plea to Defence Minister Rajnath Singh for strengthening the road network in the border areas and extending facilities to the 231 villages located along the state’s borders with China.
Himachal Pradesh shares 240 km of its borders with China of which 80 km is in Lahaul Spiti and rest in Kinnaur district. The state government is aware of the fact that China has been strengthening its physical infrastructure on its side by building new roads and bridges. Thereafter the Centre had also sanctioned a lot of funds to the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and also state government to undertake the works.
Recently the Centre had also approved more funds under the centrally -sponsored vibrant village programme.Some funds were also given to the state under the Border Area Development Programme.
The Chief Minister asked the union minister to expedite the construction of roads under Border Roads Organization (BRO). He said that better road connectivity in border areas plays a vital role in development and security of the nation. Roads are the premier mode of transport in the state which are also essential for agriculture, horticulture, tourism, healthcare and other sectors, he added.
Sukhu also discussed various other issues pertaining to the state and requested for their support and cooperation. The Defense Minister assured of all possible assistance to the state, stated the Chief Minister.
