City court reprimands Delhi Police on FIR

New Delhi: A city court has reprimanded the Delhi Police for not filing an FIR at the insistence of a complainant who alleged a fraud case, perpetrated by a man who claimed to sell her a plot of land that did not belong to him.

The court warned the Investigating Officer in the case and directed that the FIR be registered as per procedure, based on allegations of the complainant.

According to Bharti Devi, a resident of Pratap Vihar, a man named Dan Singh approached her with a proposition to sell a plot of land in the Capital. Accordingly, a deal was finalised to purchase the property at a price of Rs 22 lakh, of which Rs 10 lakh was paid to Singh as a token amount.

While Singh had said that he would collect the rest of the money at a later date when documents of the property in question are executed in the complainant's favour, he refused to meet with Devi when the date approached and neither did he execute the proper documentation.

After several failed attempts at filing a police complaint, the complainant approached the court through her advocate Pradeep Khatri, after which a Rohini judge issued stern warnings to the Delhi Police to continue with the investigation keeping with the procedure.

A preliminary probe had found that Singh was trying to sell someone else's property fraudulently.
