'Chowkidar' will not sleep till 'thieves' are not caught: PM
Shimla/Dharamshala: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hit out at the Congress of 'back-stabbing' the innocent farmers on the promises like loan waivers to win the elections and asked them not to fall in the falsehood of the Congress anymore.
He claimed that lies of the Congress have already been exposed in Punjab and Karnataka—two states where it had promised the loan waiver. Not a single penny has been waived off for the farmers in Punjab till date as only 829 farmers have been benefitted in Karnataka.
The Congress was doing same with the farmers in other states, he said without referring to recent assembly polls in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh. It was, rather a high time for the farmers to call the Congress bluff.
"The Congress, earlier at the time of 2014 Lok Sabha polls, hoodwinked the army jawans on One Rank, One Pension" making a token budget provision of Rs 500 crore against actual liability of Rs 12,000 crore fulfilled later by the NDA, and now have started showing dreams of loan waiver to the farmers, to win elections," Prime Minister declared at "Jan Abhaar" rally organised at Dharamshala on completion of one year of state's Jai Ram Thakur government.
"For the last 40 years, this country's soldiers were demanding the One Rank, One Pension scheme. The then government fooled our soldiers and kept only Rs 500 crore for it. When we came to power, I called for the file and officers were left stunned as to how the Congress had misled the soldiers," said the prime minister.
Modi claimed the BJP never made any such promise with the public, which can't be fulfilled.
On an offensive note, yet without naming Rahul Gandhi, Modi racked-up issue of corruption and firmed-up his resolve to deal with 'thieves', who have looted the exchequer and misused the public money.
"This Chowkidar has woken-up to check the loot in the country. The thieves are now scared of the Chowkidar, who is not prepared to sleep till thieves are dealt with. That's why those thieves have started calling Chowkidar a chor. It's a war, which I will never give up till the task is accomplished," he announced.
"Here, I like the name that Jai Ram ji has given to this one-year completion that we have "honestly tried". We have never said that people's rooftops will be made of gold, or there will be a car parked outside every home. We have never made these claims," Modi said.
He praised the valour and bravery of the army jawans serving the borders of the country from Himachal Pradesh and expressed his gratitude to the 'mothers' who have sent their sons to the borders.
Congratulating Jai Ram Thakur on completing one year as chief minister, Modi said, "Himachal Pradesh is like my home. I worked here for several years for the party's organisational work. Thakur deserves lots of appreciations for doing such a good job and initiating schemes to benefit common masses."
He also spoke to the beneficiaries of various government schemes and released a coffee table book on the achievements of the government, besides watching a short film on Jai Ram Thakur's one-year initiatives.
During his speech Modi spoke about the scope of tourism sector bringing revolution in HP, industrial development and also making the state a model of organic farming, an initiative for which Governor Acharya Devvrat has made a lot of efforts, he added.
The Prime Minister claimed that Himachal was witnessing a double engine growth (centre and state together) and there were infrastructure projects worth Rs 26,000 crore under implementation. He also referred to Highways and railway line projects.
Earlier, the Chief Minister assured Modi that the BJP will retain all four seats in Himachal Pradesh as it did in 2014. "While the nation wants Modi to be Prime Minister again, Himachal Pradesh has its own interest in seeing you at the helm of affairs," he announced.
