Census 2027: Over 5.72L households choose online self-enumeration
NEW DELHI: Over 5.72 lakh homes nationwide have signed up via the web-based self-response platform ahead of Census 2027, showing growing public involvement.
With authorities shifting toward tech-driven data collection, digital registration numbers continue climbing gradually.
Participation gains momentum even as officials promote online submission over traditional methods.
Now available online, the self-enumeration option lets people enter their household information directly. Earlier censuses relied solely on face-to-face visits by field staff. With digital access comes less need for physical outreach. Previously, every piece of data came through handwritten forms collected in person.
Since the portal began, more people join each month – answers arrive from villages as well as cities. Households share essential data through this online system: who lives there, schooling levels, jobs held, faith practised, languages spoken, plus whether clean water or electricity is available at home.
Following setbacks in the ten-year population count caused by the COVID outbreak, officials have turned to updated techniques to speed up information gathering. Though digital responses are promoted, face-to-face interviews remain part of the process – this helps reach individuals offline. Because some households lack web tools, in-person follow-ups fill gaps left by online efforts alone.
With fewer tasks piling up, workers might find daily routines easier under the new system. Though changes take time, early signs suggest better results in how information gets handled.
Some shifts began when public messages started promoting online involvement. Reaching more individuals became possible once outreach efforts expanded through different channels.
