CBI repatriates officer probing Asthana case
New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation late on Wednesday night removed DIG Tarun Gauba from his post at the agency and repatriated him to his state cadre in Uttar Pradesh. Gauba was in charge of probing the corruption allegations levelled against former CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana.
CBI Spokesperson Nitin Wakankar said that Gauba's tenure of seven years at the central probe agency would have ended in October this year. The maximum deputation at the CBI is for seven years (five years plus up to two years of extension). "As per tenure policy, he could not have remained here for more than seven years", he said. Wakankar added that Gauba had been selected for the coveted Fulbright Scholarship in the United States of America, which he has to attend from August 1, this year.
Further, the CBI Spokesperson said that the repatriation comes on a personal request from Gauba himself. "He has been repatriated to his parent cadre, from where he will proceed to the scholarship programme," Wakankar said.
