NEW DELHI: The day Karnataka Chief minister B.S.Yeddyurappa resigned as Chief Minister of the state, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan accepted his resignation as a member of Parliament. Yeddyurappa quit from the Shivamogga parliamentary constituency on Friday itself, and the Speaker accepted his resignation. The acceptance of resignation was notified only on Saturday afternoon before the confidence vote was taken up for consideration in Karnataka assembly.
BJP MP B Sreeramulu had also resigned from the Ballari Lok Sabha seat. Therefore, the question arises whether Yeddyurappa was confident of mustering numbers to continue as Chief Minister of the state. After the resignation of two MPs the strength of the ruling party in Lok Sabha was down to 272 including Speaker.
