BJP committed to make India a resurgent nation, says Irani

New Delhi: Making a scathing attack on Congress, Union Minister Smriti Irani said BJP is committed to make India a strong and resurgent nation while the Congress is standing with those who raise anti-India slogans.

"The Centre is committed to empowering the youth to ensure a strong and resurgent nation. On the other side, Congress continues to support those who say 'Bharat Tere Tukde Honge.' The Congress leaders have a venomous approach towards PM Modi." she said.

Her statement comes after senior Congress leader and Supreme Court advocate Kapil Sibal's comment on the Sedition law that triggered a debate earlier this week.

"There is no need for a sedition law in today's times, it is a colonial law. Many who merely speak or tweet against the government have sedition charges imposed against them; it is being misused by the Centre just to keep citizens in check," Sibal mentioned.

To counter his statement the senior BJP leader dared the party to publicly support the group, on whom the Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet this week in the case. "Would they have the guts to stand out in public places and raise those slogans? And will public support them?" she asked.

"The Congress leader hid behind the fig leaf of sedition and did not pay heed to the fact that a criminal conspiracy has ensued against India. Rahul Gandhi has publicly supported the 'tukde' gang," she added.

The alleged anti-India slogans were allegedly raised during a procession in JNU in February 2016. Delhi police earlier this week filed a chargesheet on Kanhaiya Kumar, Umar Khalid and 8 others under the Sedition charge for this case.
