Bhupinder Singh Hooda promises 50% cut in VAT on diesel

Punhana (Mewat): Former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Saturday announced that Congress would slash taxes on diesel by 50% and make diesel in Haryana the cheapest in the country again. Diesel prices were the lowest in Haryana as the VAT on diesel was 8.24% which has been hiked to 17.50% by the Bharatiya Janata Party government.

Launching the third phase of the Jankranrti Yatra from Punhana in the Mewat region of the state, he said the strength of people who had turned out, braving the elements, indicated the strong yearning for change in the state. All sections of the society are waiting eagerly for the next elections to restore growth, progress and peace in the state.

"The only achievement of this government has been to inaugurate projects initiated by the previous government. The BJP was elected on the promises of Ache Din but everyone, farmers, traders, labourers and government employees are under acute distress," he said. "Have the Ache Dincome or have they gone away," he asked the massive crowd at the Punhana Anaj Mandi.

Talking about the acute power and water shortage in the state, he said the entire state is in suffering because of the policies of the state government. "We had set up four new thermal power stations in the state to meet the growing power demand in the state. This government is not generating even one unit of new power. The government claims that there is a power surplus but the people have faced massive power cuts this summer," he said.
