Baby dies, four injured in Hyderbad hospital fire

Hyderabad: A fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of a private children's hospital here early on Monday, killing a 3-month old baby boy and injuring four others, police said.

The Director of Public Health and Family Welfare directed the Additional Director (Leprosy) to conduct an inquiry and submit a report within 24 hours. The incident happened at 2.55 a.m, LB Nagar Police Station Inspector V Ashok Reddy said. One baby died in the fire accident and four other babies were injured and shifted by police and parents to different hospitals and they were stated to be doing fine, the police official said.

As many as 42 children were undergoing treatment at the hospital at the time of the accident and the five babies were admitted in the NICU, the Inspector said.
