Ayush Ministry to highlight efficacy of ayurvedic drugs

New Delhi: Taking a note of the concern highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi that children diagnosed with lifestyle diseases like diabetes, the Ministry of Ayush is mulling to launch a campaign to make aware people that ayurvedic medicines have more healing power than modern drugs and also has no side effects.
The move has been initiated to motivate people to opt for ayurvedic medicines for the treatment of general as well as chronic diseases. According to an official, to the support their claims, the ministry would bring out several success stories wherein chronic diseases have been cured by using ayurvedic formulations.
Notably, the Prime Minister in his monthly radio broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat' had said that diseases that would earlier occur in old age only are now catching up with children. "I get shocked to learn that children are also getting diabetic. The main reason for such diseases at such a young age is less physical activities and change in our eating habits," the PM had said.
"The yoga has the remedy to cure diabetic patients, but it has some limitations as yoga alone cannot control the chronic diabetic patients. It could be controlled with the help of ayurvedic drugs. The CSIR developed ayurvedic medicine BGR-34 is a tested drug which has shown a great response in treating chronic diabetic patients," the official said.
Now the trend is changing as medical practitioners of modern medicines have started prescribing ayurvedic drugs for better results. According to Ramniwas Parashar, a well known ayurvedic expert, there are several ayurvedic drugs which are being prescribed by allopathic doctors to their patients such as Liv-52 for liver-related problems, Ashwagandha to save from mental depression, NeeriKFT to treat kidney disorders, etc.
The country is also ready to showcase its ongoing research in the treatment of diabetic by ayurvedic drugs at a global conference on herbal medicines which is scheduled to be held in Bangkok on Thursday. At the conference, a paper would be presented by Gauhati University that has developed a herbal drug to treat diabetic by using Terminalia chebula, which is commonly known as chebulic myrobalan (haritaki).
