Amit Shah to launch CBI’s BHARATPOL portal on Jan 7

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will launch the BHARATPOL portal developed by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi on January 7, 2025.

The portal is a step towards modernising international police cooperation, allowing Indian law enforcement agencies to access real-time information to expedite and enhance criminal investigations.

Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central government has introduced several measures to strengthen the country’s law enforcement infrastructure.

“The BHARATPOL portal will be a game-changer in facilitating international police collaboration,” said Amit Shah.

As the National Central Bureau (NCB-New Delhi) for INTERPOL in India, the CBI oversees international cooperation on criminal matters. It has collaboration with agencies in the states and union territory, as well as at the centre, with the help of a network of ILOs and UOs. Presently, communication amongst the agencies remains old-fashioned, using letters, e-mails, or faxes.

The growing prevalence of transnational crimes such as cybercrime, financial fraud, organised crime, drug trafficking, and human trafficking has highlighted the need for a faster, unified system for international cooperation. The BHARATPOL portal addresses this need by bringing all stakeholders onto a single digital platform, accessible through the CBI’s official website.

This portal will revolutionise the processing of requests for international assistance, including the issuance of Red Notices and other INTERPOL notices,” said a senior CBI official.

The BHARATPOL portal will enable real-time communication to enhance the efficiency of field-level police officers in combating complex crimes and security challenges.

The event will also witness Amit Shah presenting police medals to 35 CBI officers and officials for their distinguished service and excellence in investigation.

Among these are the recipients of the President’s Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Union Home Minister’s Medal for Excellence in Investigation.
