Air Marshal Sadhna Nair becomes DGHS
NEW DELHI: Air Marshal Sadhna S Nair has taken charge as the Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces), making her the first woman to hold this position after being promoted to the rank of Air Marshal. She previously served as the Principal Medical Officer at HQ Training Command (Air Force) in Bangalore. With a background in medicine, Air Marshal Sadhna S Nair graduated from the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune, and joined the Indian Air Force in December 1985.
She has received extensive training, including in Family Medicine, Medical Informatics at AIIMS, New Delhi, CBRN Warfare with the Israeli Defence Forces, and Military Medical Ethics in Switzerland. Her distinguished service has earned her commendations and the Vishisht Seva Medal. Remarkably, three generations of her family have served in the Indian Air Force over the last seven decades.
The Director General Hospital Services (Armed Forces) is considered a prestigious position that is part of the Armed Forces Medical Services (AFMS).
Air Marshal Sadhna is the wife of Air Marshal KP Nair (Retd). The Nairs also happen to be the first and only Air Marshal couple in the IAF.
She has the unique distinction of being a daughter and sister of IAF doctors and of being a wife and mother of IAF fighter pilots.
She was the first and only woman Principal Medical Officer of Western Air Command and Training Command.
Air Marshal Sadhna has received commendations from the Chief of Air Staff and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief as well.
