66th National Awards: Gujarati movie 'Hellaro' wins best film

New Delhi: Twenty-seven vernacular films bagged the 66th National Film Award among others in different criteria this year, the Jury chairpersons announced in a press conference here on Friday. Gujarati film 'Hellaro' wins Best Feature Film Award, whereas 'Badhai Ho' bagged the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment.

'Padman' declared as the best film on social issues, while Kannada film 'Ondalla Eradalla' got Nargis Dutt Award for best feature film on national integration.

Film director Rahul Rawail - Chairperson of Feature Film Category, AS Kanal- Chairperson of Non-Feature Film Category and film critic and filmmaker Utpal Borpujari - Chairperson of Best Writing on Cinema submitted the list to the I&B minister Prakash Javadekar early during the day.

Further, popular Hindi film actors Ayushman Khurana and Vicky Kaushal jointly bagged the Best Actor Award for their performances in 'Andhadhun' and 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'. Swanand Kirkire has won the Best Supporting Actor award for Marathi film 'Chumbak', while Southern popular actress Keerthy Suresh has won the Best Actress category for her performance in Telugu movie 'Mahanati'. Apart from Telugu, the 26-years old actress has done films in Tamil and Malayalam also. Veteran Actress Surekha Sikri has been awarded as Best Supporting Actress for her stupendous performance in Hindi film 'Badhai Ho'. Master PV Rohith, a southern child artist bagged the Best Child Artist Award for his lead role in Kannada film 'Ondella Eradalla', directed by D Satya Prakash, along with Sameep Singh for Punjabi film 'Harjeeta', Talha Arshad Reshi for Urdu film 'Hamid' and Shrinivas Pokale for Marathi film 'Naal'.

Sudhakar Reddy Yakkanti's Marathi film 'Naal' - a story of an eight-year-old mischievous boy, living in a remote village in Maharashtra has won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Debut Film of a Director, while Aditya Dhar won Best Director Award for 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'.

Besides, in the special category, Addinath Kothare's Marathi film 'Paani' has won the National Film Award in Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation category and Rishab Shetty's Kannada movie 'Sarkari Hiriya Prathamika Shale Kasargodu' bagged the Best Children's Film Award.

Singer Arijit Singh has won best male playback singer award for his song 'Binte Dil' from the Hindi film 'Padmavat' and Bindhu Malini won the Best Female Playback Singer for her song 'Maayavi Manave' from Kannada film 'Nathicharami'.

Veteran cameraman M J Radhakrishnan, who died last month, will be Awarded Best Cinematography Award for Malayalam film 'Olu'. Actor turned director Rahul Ravindran has won Best Screenplay for Telugu film 'Chi La Sow', along with Sriram Raghavan, Arijit Biswas, Yogesh Chandekar, Hemant Rao and Pooja Ladha Surti for Hindi film 'Andhadhun' and Bengali actor turned director Churni Ganguly for her film 'Tarikh'.

Popular Bengali director Srijit Mukherjee's 'Ek Je Chhilo Raja' bagged the Best Bengali Film Award; Deepika Padukone's 'Ghoomer' song from Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Padmavat' has won Best Choreography Award.

Kruti Mahesh Madya and Jyoti Tomar will be awarded. Apart from that Sanjay Leela Bhansali also bagged Best Music Direction Award for the same film along with Shashwat Sachdev for 'Uri: The Surgical Strike'. Bengali director Indradip Dasgupta will also be awarded Special Jury Award for his film 'Kendra'.

Uttarakhand has been awarded for being most film friendly state.

There are 69 categories. Reportedly 419 films competed for 31 categories.
